Stop the Deception

The Free Press describes the TV ads from the MCRI opposition as “compelling and provocative.” Unfortunately, an additional adjective was missing – misleading. The ads make emotional pleas that have no bearing on the MCRI. Dr. Rhonda Hennessey’s attempts to secure a business loan would not be affected by the MCRI. Neither would the two young girls who dream of being scientists.

The MCRI only prohibits affirmative action programs that grant preferences such as adding bonus points onto a college application based only on a person’s color. California passed its own version of MCRI nearly a decade ago and still offers programs providing benefits to disadvantaged minorities and women.

Michigan United needs to stop its deception and join in a civil debate on why government should not be allowed to treat people differently.
