Who will carry on rights movement? - 11/02/05

A Detroit News headline inquired, "Who will carry on rights movement?" Currently, that torch is being carried by Jennifer Gratz, State Rep. Leon Drolet, and Ward Connerly of the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative. In spite the efforts of determined opposition groups, the MCRI's persistence paid off when the Court of Appeals ordered the Board of State Canvassers to certify the petition. Thanks to the MCRI, the citizens of Michigan will have the opportunity to overturn the discriminatory admission policies of state universities so students can be judged on their merits rather than their skin color.
