GOP challengers are spineless
Even though campaigning for 2006 just started, two of the three potential Republican challengers to U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow revealed they lack the principles and courage to stand on the side of justice. Instead, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard and the Rev. Keith Butler chose to pander to the political correct crowd and oppose the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative. The MCRI will force public universities to stop using race as a determining factor in granting admission – another step toward a color-blind society.
Bouchard and Butler wish to avoid taking a controversial position on the issue. Although favored by a majority of Michigan voters, candidates supporting the MCRI will face the shrill accusations of “racism” from a small, but vocal contingent of racial preferences supporters. Already these two candidates demonstrate they lack the conviction to face such a group.
How will either of these potential senators handle the liberal propaganda machine when faced with legislation to cut taxes, lower spending, or reform government?
