Ohio voting problems show need for election reform - 01/07/05
U.S. Representative John Conyers Jr. (D-MI) is correct when he states we need "real election reform" but his real intent is to vilify Republicans and pander to the extremists in his party claiming conspiracy. Ensuring ballots are handled and tabulated properly is critical to free and fair elections. Before addressing Conyers concern to "make sure every vote is counted", we must make sure every vote is valid. Personally I find it foolish that election workers have never tried to verify my identity at the poll. Unfortunately when attempts are made to verify a voter's identity, Conyers and friends scream "voter intimidation".
In addition, Conyers claims to seek election reform would appear more credible if his investigation focused on all allegations. All of Conyers' accusations focused on the Ohio GOP and ignores the questionable voter registrations from Democrat groups ACORN and Project Vote.
A true representative of the people would not subject the right to vote to partisanship. Then again, a man of character would not take turkeys for the poor and give them to his friends.
