People in glass houses. . .

Background: Iris Salter, MEA President, wrote a standard union screed on the "evils" of privatization.

Iris Salters' claim that schools are getting conned on privatization seems strange given that the MEA has contracted for food, janitorial, mail, and security services at its headquarters in East Lansing. Also, Salters seems extremely concerned about safety. Perhaps she read the 2004 state auditor general report that found 222 licensed school workers, mostly teachers, with convictions ranging from robbery and assault to criminal sexual conduct. Schools should be cautious when hiring all teachers, even those who belong to the MEA.
