Why do we honor politicians?
Background: Letter is self explanatory. I want to know why we tolerate the glorification of politicians? Contrary to the rhetoric, politicians are not public servants. They get paid handsomely in salaries and benefits. They aren’t doing it for free. On top of that, they contribute very little to society.
Thank you for the article on the recent passing of Richard Macon, a former Tuskegee airman and longtime educator. How refreshing to read about a real hero instead of the usual drivel about the latest antics of self-indulgent “celebrities”. Unfortunately, your article was marred by one minor fact. Macon died at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center. Why is a VA hospital named after a career politician still in office? I suggest renaming the hospital to the Richard Macon VA Medical Center.
