I love being scolded by idealistic college students

In spite of Vanessa Notman’s scolding over Proposal 2, I am not ashamed. I proudly supported the efforts to eliminate government-sponsored discrimination. While Notman and I probably agree with the goal of race preferences – namely to help underprivileged citizens - we disagree with the means to achieve those goals. Fighting discrimination with discrimination is wrong. The ends do not justify the means. While Notman and other Proposal 2 opponents can claim that preferences are not discrimination, the majority of voters disagreed.

In addition to scolding voters, Notman insults us by claiming a commonality with the KKK. Perhaps a handful of Klansmen voted for the proposal, but let’s be clear about whose principles are shared. The Klan, like opponents to Proposal 2, favors racial preferences. Obviously these groups have different motives and seek to apply the preferences to different races, but they are linked by their desire to perpetuate racial distinctions.
