Because there's a problem with the content

The Michigan Civil Rights Initiative battle has revealed serious flaws plaguing some people in politics. First, two Granholm-appointed members of the Board of Canvassers violated a court order by refusing to certify the MCRI. Then, Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick filed a “personal” lawsuit against the initiative using city attorney Sharon McPhail. Now, U.S. Rep. John Conyers, taking a page from Richard Nixon’s playbook, tries to get the IRS to investigate Ward Connerly.

Perhaps this is why MCRI opponents fear being judged by the content of their character.
