How should Michigan improve schools?

Ten letters appeared under the heading “How should Michigan improve schools?” and not surprisingly, ten solutions were offered. This reveals the crux of the problem.

So many ideas for improving schools exist but the freedom to implement them does not. This results in one-size-fits-all programs trying to educate thousands of unique individuals. Open the education market to competition and watch countless ideas blossom. The effective ideas will flourish as parents choose them over the bad ideas. In the current monopoly, bad ideas simply demand more funding.

How should Michigan improve schools? Allow competition and school choice and the free market will take care of it.
