Content over color

Accounting senior Jennifer Tindle should get her facts straight before criticizing The State News. In a recent article, you correctly stated that the MCRI bans “some” affirmative action practices. Tindle falsely claims Proposal 2 bans “all” programs.

Her claim ignores the clear wording of the initiative and the experiences of other states which passed similar measures. Proposal 2 limits the ban on affirmative action to those programs which grant preferential treatment usually in the form of bonus points and behind-the-scenes quota systems that get used by government agencies for university admissions, public employment, and public contracting. As California and Washington have proven, Proposal 2 does not prohibit outreach programs that can be used to increase the involvement of underrepresented minorities.

On November 7, pick content over color. Vote yes on Proposal 2.
