Well, he is a big, fat liberal

Nolan Finley’s lost admiration for a Washington-based group advocating fiscal frugality is confusing (“A good man fights for his political life”, 7/30/2006). According to their mission statement, the Club for Growth “exists to encourage, and make possible, the enactment of pro-growth economic policies by the federal government.”

Finley is upset because the organization labels his “old friend” Joe Schwartz “a big, fat liberal” but the Club for Growth is simply adhering to its mission. In its latest ratings of congressional votes, the non-partisan National Taxpayers Union gives Schwartz a less than satisfactory “C-“ grade. Clearly, Schwartz does not support pro-growth policies. When it comes to fiscal responsibility, the Club for Growth can’t label Schwartz a “small, lean conservative” because he’s not.
