Wrong premise = Wrong conclusion

Dr. H. Sook Wilkinson’s recent commentary on the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative is based on a false premise. The MCRI would not eliminate all affirmative action programs. The initiative only prohibits those programs that give preferential treatment based on color, race, and gender.

For proof, simply look to California which passed a similar initiative 10 years ago. A simple Internet search reveals that the state government, the cities and counties of Los Angeles and San Francisco, and the University of California continue to promote affirmative action programs in their hiring practices.

Contrary to Wilkinson’s implications, supporters of the MCRI do not fear diversity. However, we do know that the MCRI’s opponents fear voters armed with facts.
