Missing the forest through the trees

Manny Lopez is correct when he describes the idea that we live in a colorblind society as “laughable.” In fact, he points out the obvious. Our universities use color to determine who gets preferential treatment for admission. Meanwhile, our cities use color to determine who gets preferential treatment for contract awards. As long as government agencies are allowed to violate the principles of equality, color will remain divisive. Why is this so hard for opponents of the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative to see?
