Racial preferences not a bright idea

Laura Berman asks an excellent question, “If our leaders are so smart, how did we get into this mess?” If the diversity allegedly promoted by racial preferences is so critical to Michigan’s economy, why is our state the only one to lose jobs? In truth, diversity does not cause economic success. Success comes from promoting ideas and people on merit.

California and Washington, two states that prohibit racial preferences, continue to create jobs and improve the lives of all their citizens. However, to claim their prosperity results from the ban would be just as foolish as claiming Michigan’s will suffer with one. Obviously racial preferences are not the bright idea Berman claims. Perhaps Ford and GM would do better focusing on automotive rather than social engineering.

This letter is based on an entry by Chetly Zarko on his blog There is no law. . .only power, politics, and money. A special thanks to him for allowing me to borrow his ideas.
